Windows computers

Microsoft Windows XP Pro is the operating system of choice for Windows PC's at IU, and is available for free to all IU students, faculty and staff. The Windows desktop (above) usually contains icons for 'My Computer', 'My Documents', and 'Recycle Bin', as well as other files and folders you may store there. The Start Menu (open, lower left) offers access to Programs you have installed as well as Settings such as the Control Panel which lets you modify Desktop background, Network connections, Printers, and other properties of your PC. Note the System Tray in the lower-right corner - here containing the date/time as well as the two most important icons, Norton Antivirus and Windows Update Notification.
