Software

Below are a set of links to software resources in our department, broken down into categories.

Free software

  • IUWare is software offered to IU personnel through contracts IU has negotiated with Microsoft and other software vendors. You can download this software through the iuware.iu.edu website, or get most titles on CD for $5 each at the IU Bookstore.
  • VersionTracker is a database of freeware and shareware as well as full-priced commercial applications. It is neither offered by nor supported by IU or the department but often a valuable resource nonetheless.

Discounted software

  • Adobe Software is available for purchase on grants and department accounts through a special contract with Bell-Tech Logix. Contact Biology Computing Support for help in selecting products or Biology's Purchasing Office for help in ordering selected products. Note that no credit card or cash purchases are allowed; instead a grant or IU account number is required.
  • CDW-G is a massive database of software and hardware products from many different vendors, available to IU faculty, staff and students for institutional/grant purchases. For personal purchases use the CDW Faculty and Student Homepage.
  • The IU StatMath Center sells and supports yearly licenses for a number of statistical and mathematics packages such as SAS, SPSS, Sigmaplot, Matlab, Mathematica, etc.
  • The IU Bookstore Computer Connection Located in the Indiana Memorial Union sells many software titles at an educational discount.
