Migration topics

In order to consolidate and simplify services, the sunflower server (also known as sunflower.bio.indiana.edu or mail.bio.indiana.edu) is being retired this year, along with biology email accounts and sunflower web pages.  You'll need to begin using your IU email account instead of your biology email account.  Your biology email address will still work, however, as we can easily set it to forward incoming mail to your IU email account so that no mail sent to you will be lost.  See below for detailed instructions on migrating to the IU email system.  Likewise, we can forward (or 'redirect') your sunflower web page address, if you have web pages on sunflower, to your web page on another server, and/or help you set up web pages on another server.  Please see below for details, and contact Biology Computing Support with any questions:

Email: migrating to the IU Cyrus mail system
We've prepared step-by-step instructions to help you begin using your IU email account, and to copy your old email to your IU account or to local folders on your hard drive.  After you've confirmed that you can log in to IU Webmail, you can also set up access to your IU email using your email software of choice (OS X Mail, Thunderbird, Eudora, etc.) if you wish.  Final steps in this process include activating the IU Spam filter, and setting your user@bio.indiana.edu email address to forward incoming mail to your user@indiana.edu address.  Click here for complete instructions.

Files: copying files and folders from sunflower to your computer
You have until August 1st to copy any files that you want to keep in your sunflower home directory to another computer. Use Secure FTP(SFTP) software to access sunflower.bio.indiana.edu and copy files or folders to your Mac or PC. If you don't have SFTP on your computer you can download it from the 'Communications' category on IUWare (iuware.iu.edu).

Web pages: moving your sunflower web pages to other servers
If you currently have web pages in your public_html directory on sunflower, you can set up your web site on a different server, such as IU's MyPage or Veritas servers.  Once you've relocated your web site, email help@bio.indiana.edu and let us know so that we can set a redirect from your old sunflower web address to your new web site address. If you need help getting accounts on or connecting to MyPage, Veritas, or other servers or copying your web pages to them, please contact Biology Computing Support at help@bio.indiana.edu or come by our office in Jordan Hall 240.
